Brazilian Girls

The running joke is that none of the members of this three-person band are Brazilian, and only one of them is a ‘girl’. Even that’s stretching it, because vocalist Sabina Sciubba is a woman, and a stunning one at that. The Brazilian Girls are an eclectic electronica band from New York City, made up of Ms. Sciubba from Germany, Didi Gutman from Argentina, and Aaron Johnston from the US, that sings in a variety of languages – Italian, Spanish, French, German, etc – and incorporate a wide range of styles into their music, like tango, jazz…and bossa nova. It’s their bossa appeal that garners them a mention on this website, if not their provocative name (you’re sure to get interesting, questioning looks when those not in the know see a folder in your computer labeled ‘Brazilian Girls’). I haven’t seen many a track more aptly named than Lazy Lover, a bossa-nova-inspired tune that languishes luxuriously and features Miss Sciubba purring throughout. Also included here for your aural enjoyment is Sweatshop, a track whose bossa origins are inexistent but whose appeal is undeniable.

A piada aqui é que nenhum dos membros da banda Brazilian Girls é brasileiro, e só um dos membros é do sexo feminino. E esse tal membro nem ‘girl’ é, mais sim uma mulher, uma woman, no verdadeiro sentido da palavra. Os Brazilian Girls, composto pela alemã Sabina Sciubba, o argentino Didi Gutman e o american Aaron Johnston, é uma banda ecléctica por natureza, nova-iorquina, que especializa em música electronica. Cantam em italiano, espanhol, francês, alemão, e por aí em diante, e inspiram-se em géneros diversos, incluindo o tango, o jazz, e a bossa nova. É a sua apreciação pela bossa nova que lhes traz a este site (o nome da banda também ajuda, se bem que ter uma pasta no teu computador com o título ‘Brazilian Girls’ com certeza irá provocar olhares estranhos). Falando em nomes, a faixa Lazy Lover soa mesmo como o seu título. Inspirada na bossa nova, é um som luxuosamente preguiçoso onde a senhora Sciubba delicia-nos os tímpanos. Também incluída neste post para o vosso prazer musical está Sweatshop, que mesmo não sendo inspirada na bossa nova é linda pra se ouvir.
