Late Nite Lounge Vol. 29 - Ye Yo, by Erykah Badu

The Late Nite Lounge Series. My excuse to share with you some of the non-Lusophone music that I've been listening to lately, that has consumed me over the last couple weeks. It's been awhile since the last of these series, when Robin Thicke serenaded us with the suggestively naughty Teach U a Lesson. Recently however I've been gripped by more soulful fare, in the form of Ms. Erykah Badu. She's the one that's been nourishing my soul, late into the night. Provocative/controversial video or not, I was really taken with Window Seat, off her new album "New Amerykah Part Two (Return Of The Ankh)" and still have it in constant rotation.

But my most recent infatuation with her started in Luanda, and this post is dedicated to the man who reignited my passion for Erykah Badu, a certain Mr. Leo. Leo (Emerson) is a cousin of mine who calls himself a sound engineer, and his taste in music is truly eclectic. During my time in Luanda, and especially during drives through the Ilha late at night, he would play Erykah Badu's Ye Yo (Live) and demand that no one speak while the song was on. The volume dial was usually set close to max at this point, and as the force of Badu's voice inundated your eardrums, you couldn't blame Leo for not wanting our voices to interfere. Here is to an amazing live version of one of Badu's greatest musical expressions, her rendition of Ye Yo, inspired by her song Sometimes off her album Baduism.

Ye Yo (Live)

New Amerykah Part Two (Return Of The Ankh)".
